Minimum wage: Ogun organized labour issues 2-day warning strike

The Organized labour union in Ogun State, on Monday, served a notice of two-day warning strike on the State Government, over its failure to deliberate with it on the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The labour union, in a letter, addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the move became necessary due to non-challant attitude on the part of the government on the issue, despite various steps by its leadership in getting the government to the negotiation table.

In the letter jointly signed by the State Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Bankole; Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bunmi Fajobi; Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Folorunso Olanrewaju and Coordinating Secretary, Adebiyi Olusegun respectively, the labour union said the two-day warning strike will start from Thursday 20th December to Friday 21st December 2019.

The Union also added if the state government failed to respond to its demand at the expiration of the warning strike, workers in the state shall proceed on an indefinite strike from January 2nd, 2020.

The letter reads thus: “A Congress of Organized labour in Ogun State today Monday 16th December 2019, after an exhaustive deliberations and review of actions taken by the leadership in getting State Government to the negotiation table and the non-challant attitude thereon, and also mindful of the directive of the National Joint Public Service Negotiation Council that as negotiation towards consequential adjustment in the States must be concluded by 31st December 2019, resolved that a 2-day warning strike be embarked upon starting from Thursday 20th to Friday 21st December 2019.

” We must add that at the expiration of the 2-day warning strike the State government still fail to respond to our demand, all workers in the public service of Ogun State shall proceed on an indefinite strike from 2nd January 2020.”
