A collapsed mine site in Gambar Lere in Boi village of Bogoro LGA has claimed the life of a 17-year-old young man, Maluyi Ishaya.
The collapsed mine site also got another person seriously injured and recovering from the injuries at the hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
A source from the area told Our Correspondent that the mine site collapsed last week Saturday, 18th May 2024 while the unskilled miners were underground searching for the commodity.
A family source who does not want his name mentioned, confirmed the unfortunate incident which he said has thrown the family into a moment of sadness and mourning.
He said, “I can confirm to you that a young man called Maluyi Ishaya, a resident of Gambar Lere, died and one other person was injured as a result of the collapse of a mine site.”
He added, “The victims were locally, unskilfully mining monoxide at the site. Maluyi Ishaya died in the process when the heap of sand covered him.”
The source added; “Efforts by local people around to rescue him failed and he died instantly, while his friend was rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
According to him, “The incident took place on Saturday, 18th May 2024 at about 2 pm.”
Reports from the area revealed that Maluyi Ishaya has since been buried according to Christian rite in his village, Gambar Lere.
