Mimiko’s free food arrives Ondo South

THE second phase of the food distribution programme under the Ondo State government initiated palliative scheme, Eto Igbe-Ayo, where raw foodstuffs are given to women for free, has moved to the Southern Senatorial district.

The programme rounded off distribution of foodstuffs in the four local government areas in Akoko last Friday following its inauguration in Ikare, Akoko North East Local Government Area where it recorded over 5,000 beneficiaries.

Designed for the 18 local government areas in the state and targeted at 100,000 women irrespective of party affiliations, the second phase of the scheme took off in Ose and Owo local government areas on Monday.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, while briefing newsmen on the progress made so far, said the Ose and Owo local governments exercise was highly successful as women trooped out in droves to take advantage of the programme.

He said the distributing team moved to Ese-Odo and Okitipupa local government areas on Wednesday and will also distribute food in Ilaje, Irele, Ile-Oluji and Odigbo council areas all in the southern district, before the next phase commences next week.

The Association of Women Plank Merchants in Akoko, through their Secretary, Mrs Janet Ijaduade, at the distribution of palliative items in Oke Agbe Akoko, said that Governor Mimiko had demonstrated that “he is a caring governor and full of compassion for women.”

Also, the state’s Hairdresser Association, in a “thank you” letter, signed by the Publicity Secretary, Mrs Simbo Akinwumi, said the governor had given women in the state and their family great hope by his gesture, urging government to continue with the programme until the economic crunch in the country ameliorate.

Justifying the decision of his government to commence the programme, Mimiko had submitted that “It is obvious there is hunger in the land and we as government can not pretend that this is not the case.”
