Eight suspects who were arrested in Akure, the Ondo State capital, by security operatives on Thursday, in connection with the attack on the convoy of the State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, have been remanded in prison.
The suspects who include, Tunde Alabi, Olarenwaju Olomokitan, Adeniyi Michael, Samson Omodun, Oluwaseun Ijalade, Abiola Eniola, Yusuff Muhammad were remanded in Olokuta Prison after their arraignment at the Chief Magistrate Court, Akure on Friday.
According to the charge sheet, the eight accused were charged with a four- count charge of felony, riot, public disturbance, unlawful assembly and destruction of public property.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge but the Prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso said in the charge sheet that the accused persons, on February 2, 2017, committed the offence in Akure.
However, the Presiding Judge, Magistrate Victoria Bob-manuel, ordered that the eight accused persons should be remanded in Olokuta prison while the case was adjourned till February 22, 2017 for mention.
It will be recalled that protesters suspected to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday attacked the convoy of the state governor at the entrance of State House of Assembly.
The protesters were at the entrance of the state House of Assembly complex to prevent the governor from entering the floor of the House to present the last budget of his administration.
The protesters were said to have rained stones on the coaster bus in the governor’s convoy destroying the bus and an ambulance but no one was hurt in the attack.
