THE Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Wednesday charged corps members serving in the state to respect the tradition and culture of their host communities and be more committed towards development of the nation.
Mimiko who stated this in Ikare Akoko, in Akoko North East local government area of the state during the closing ceremony of the Batch ‘B’ orientation programme of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), urged the corps members to make positive impact to their immediate environment during their service year
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon Dayo Awude, urged the corps members to be agent of change tasking them on what they could do to make a difference.
He assured that the state government would continue to be responsive to the welfare of corps members in the state, saying “On our part as government, we shall continue to be responsive to the welfare of corps members.
“For those of you that pay particular attention to the development of your host communities by executing viable projects, such will not go unrewarded.
“I should reassure you at this juncture that the people of the state are very hospitable and accommodating. You will soon discover this through your association with them,” he said.
He advised the corps members not to live a reckless life in their place of primary assignment, saying the warning became necessary because the scheme was designed to make the youths to become responsible and contribute towards nation building.
