MILITARY personnel last Friday carried out search operation on the official residence of a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Benjamin Veese of Katsina Ala diocese, in Katsina Ala area of Benue State.
Katsina Ala is the stronghold of the dreaded criminal Terwase Akwaza also known as Gana who had since been declared wanted by the State government.
Benue government had placed the sum of 10 million naira bounty on him.
Sources told the Nigerian Tribune that the military men stormed the priest’s house early hour of the fateful day and searched everywhere.
The source added that the priest was not around when the search operation was carried out.
While confirming the invasion through a phone call, Fr. Vesue said that he was not around at the time the soldiers stormed his residence, saying that it was his younger brothers who were at home.
According to him, “the soldiers stormed the parish I oversee as early as 6am and turned the house upside down claiming that they were searching for weapons.”
“They searched everywhere and did not find anything. The soldiers came from Takum in Taraba State. I was not around when they came,” he said.
When contacted spokesman of Special Force 707 Brigade Major Olabisi Ayeni said they would carry out thorough investigation to ascertain the incident, adding that there was possibility that those who carried out the search impersonated soldiers.
