Militants’ quit notice to Yorubas, northerners idle talk —Kokori, Onuesoke

Former secretary general of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Kokori, has described, as an idle talk from idle minds, the ultimatum given to Yorubas and northerners by militants to quit the Niger Delta.

This is just as a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Sunday Onuesoke, said the reason for the threat might not be far from the lopsidedness of the polity.

Kokori, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, while slamming the militants for being shortsighted and ignorant of the repercussions of the threat, said the Federal Government should wake up from its slumber.

He said the threat came on the heels of the snail pace at which the APC-led government is moving the country which has led to every Dick and Harry seeking attention.

“Nowadays, everybody is seeking attention and they see that the government is very slow.

Everybody is seeking attention, but now that Buhari is back, let him carry Osinbajo along and, move the country forward.

“The country is moving at a slow pace and that’s what is generating the fuse by the restless youths.

“They should begin to implement what they have for Nigerians. The youths are restless because nothing is happening.

“Government should put on its thinking cap and implement their policies of change to Nigeria.

“Not that those boys are serious, saying that some Nigerians should leave some parts of the country is unacceptable.

“Nobody can, at this stage, tell Nigerians to leave any part of the country. Joblessness is the cause of the call, “ Chief Kokori noted.

Chief Onuesoke, a former governorship aspirant of the PDP, insisted that the only way out of issuance of such quit notice was for the country to be restructured such that each region could control its own resources.

“What the militants are saying is that there should be true federalism and not the present unitarianism being practised in the country, “ he averred.

It will be recalled that about a week ago, a group of militants issued a quit notice directing Yorubas and northerners to quit the Niger Delta region before October 1.
