HOODLUMS suspected to be militants on Tuesday blown up a gas pipeline in Ogijo area of Ogun State.

Tribune Online gathered that the hoodlums who under the guise of being maintenance officers from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, carried out the dastardly act around PZ Estate in the area.

It was learnt that a loud explosion occurred shortly after the hoodlums left the area which led to the destruction of the gas pipeline

Residents were said to have scampered to safety as the affected pipeline served an 11.4 distribution line for some companies in Ikorodu, Lagos State

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, saying that men of the command had been dispatched to the scene.

He said repair work is being carried out on the affected section by the NNPC officials.

According to Adejobi, Superintendent of Police “Some hoodlums on Tuesday went and burst a part of a gas pipeline around PZ Area in Ogijo.

“We heard that they came as if they were officials of a company in charge of the maintenance of the gas pipeline, and the residents were deceived by this ploy.

“We don’t want to conclude yet that they were militants but we call them criminals, and we will get them wherever they are.

“The command had deployed men to the area, and we are working with other sister security agencies. The Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo, Mohammed Tijani, and his team are also there. The Lagos State police command ‎had also deployed men on their side, in the area.”
