Provost, Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Mr Siji Ganiyu, has said middle-level human capital for health was core to Nigeria’s attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr Ganiyu, who spoke at the matriculation of 507 students of the college, stated that even with the latest of types of equipment, without prerequisite middle-level healthcare manpower, the attainment of sustainable development goals would be a mirage.
The provost stated that the college, positioned for human capital development, runs 17 programmes in fields including environmental health, pharmacy technicians, public health nursing, medical laboratory science and dental technology.

Mr Ganiyu, however, decried poor recruitment of middle-level health workers in the public sector, saying some of them are also relevant at the secondary healthcare level.
He declared “as we train them, they need to be absorbed into the system. Majority of those that have left the college are in to private practice, “the public sector should also employ them.”
Earlier, the provost charged the new students to be well behaved, follow school regulations and ensure they grow in their chosen career.
“Knowledge is power; make sure you use the facilities in this college to acquire knowledge. This will ensure you achieve your goals and clearly separate yourself from others,” he declared.
The students taking their matriculation oath affirmed that they would not engage in any acts of violence, improper conducts in and out of the college, join the secret cult or be involved in pornography or indecent dressing within and outside the college.
