Middle Belt killings: Enough is enough, NAPS says

The leadership of polytechnic students in Nigeria has watched in utter disgust and shock, the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians in the middle belt region of the country from Benue to Plateau.

The killings of Nigerians now seem to be a norm as headlines in national dailies habitually report deaths of scores and hundreds almost everyday.

The blame game seems to be unending and we have seen enough to be convinced that the Federal Government and relevant Security outfits have failed in their primary responsibility to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

A statement signed by the national president and PRO of the student body, Comrades Mohammed Enneji and Comrade Olasunkanmi Ijaduoye, explained that “Our comrades in affected states have made a distress call, asking for an immediate halt to the killings because everyone is scared and nervous about their lives and properties.

“The most recent occurrence recorded a staggering loss of more than 86 lives to unidentified gunmen.

“It behooves our sense of rationality to see the docile intelligence gathering not being able to prevent this kind of disaster.

“No one is safe in Nigeria, if gunmen can run the show in any part of the country without being intercepted and repelled by the security operatives.

“We challenge the Nigerian Army and Police force to live up to their responsibilities.

“The Federal Government should admit failure on security and must do everything possible to ensure no reoccurecnce of these attacks,”

  • NAPS however sympathies with the families of victims of the attacks.
