Methodist Church Nigeria honours Ebenezer Obey with KCW award

Music legend, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, is indeed a multifaceted icon as his contributions to the music industry have not only shaped the Juju music genre but also helped popularise it on a global scale.

Aside from being known for his pioneering work in Juju music, Obey’s career has been marked by his deep spirituality and commitment to social and cultural values.

His role as a spiritual leader and community advocate has added another layer to his legacy as the Methodist Church Nigeria would honour him with the Knight of Charles Wesley award on Sunday, September 8, at the Freeman Methodist Cathedral, Ogbe, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to the church, the special recognistion of the octogenarian musician is a testament to how his impact resonates in multiple facets of life, from entertainment to spiritual enrichment.

Obey, renowned for his impact on the Nigerian music scene, particularly in the Juju music genre, and later expanded his frontiers with his evangelical ministry, would be honoured alongside other top personalities with the prestigious award.

In his acceptance letter for the award, Obey, a Methodist from birth, expressed deep appreciation for the honour and recognition. He revealed that he believed the award would further inspire him to continue advancing his evangelistic efforts.

“Just as John Wesley and Charles Wesley used their passion for evangelism and music to spread the gospel worldwide, I trust to carry this legacy in my evangelistic work,” he added.
