Message from Osun poll

THE Osun State election of Saturday did not come with constitutional requirements but also reveals specific intricacies in our electoral processes and leadership recruitment. We need to be politically, mathematical and statistically correct about what the people of Osun state are saying with their ballot box.

First, the total vote cast for five prominent parties is 694, 508 out of the 720, 122 valid votes as reported on the front page of the Nigerian Tribune No 17,116 of Monday, September 24, 2018.

Of the total vote of 694, 508, the total votes of the ruling APC is 254, 345 and that is a percentage of 36.62 per cent; total votes for Adeleke’s PDP is 254, 698 and that is 36.67 per cent. The total vote for Omisore’s SDP is 128.051 and that is 18.43 per cent.

The total votes for ADP is 49, 733 at 7.16 per cent and the ADC had 7681 votes at 1.01 per cent. From the figures available, the total votes against APC so far is 440, 163 and in almost all the Local Government Areas, there were more votes against the APC.

The point here is that the APC has lost its popularity and care must be taken to resolve this election result. The best option to resolve is to be on the side of the law, to do otherwise is to incubate bitterness, confusion, lethargy and hatred.

The resources of Osun state are too lean to accommodate such vices. A peaceful resolution is a better option, four years is not an entity, after all APC has been in power for eight years.

P.S.O. Taiwo,

Ibadan
