Senators, House of Representatives members, as well as well-meaning political gladiators from the South-South and South-East zones have been urged to demonstrate their faith and love for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and register in mass with the party in its forthcoming membership registration exercise.
An APC stalwart, Chief Chemberline Okechukwu Adiaso made the plea, and said that it is necessary for the people of the areas to derive full benefit from the socio-infrastructural development of the country.
The plea followed the recent defection of Senator Nelson Effiong representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the previous defections.
Adiaso who predicted more defections into the ruling party said that, there was need for other senators from the South East and South-South zones to quickly move over to the ruling party.
The APC chieftain who reacted to threats by some elements in the PDP, to declare vacant seat of any of its members who crosses carpet, as laughable. Insisting that the court had earlier ruled, that once there is crisis in a political party, its members are at liberty to defect to another party.
The party chieftain noted that, APC was effectively in control of four geo-political zones in the country, and advised the remaining two zones from the southern part of the country to massively decamp to the ruling part in order to benefit maximally from the lofty ideas of the party.
He said, “Today, everyone knows that there is crisis in the PDP. In fact, there are two factions in the party. So, which of them will go to court? Is it the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction that will declare someone’s seat vacant, or the Ahmed Makarfi’s group?”
Speaking further, Adiaso commended the federal government for approving funds for continuation of works on the second Niger Bridge, which he said would boost socio-economic activities in the region when completed.
According to him, recent developments in the country have proved that Ndi Igbos’ aspirations for fair, equitable development and distribution of the country’s resources would be better met under an APC government.
He therefore urged all Ndi Igbos to support President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, in order to achieve its goals, and attract more federal projects to the region.
