Ms Sandra Patrick, Yoga Expert and Wellness Coach
MS Sandra Patrick, Yoga and Wellness Coach, Breathe Yoga Studio, has advised people to engage in meditation to find lasting solutions to their challenges.
Patrick gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the ongoing Social Media Week (SMW) Lagos 2019, Offline Wellness Class on Wednesday in Lagos.
She said that meditation helped to heal stress and depression.
According to her, meditation also helps people to survive from being weighed down by challenges.
“Meditation is about finding balance in the chaos of life. It’s a way to heal yourself, by yourself,’’ she said.
Patrick said that one of the reasons people were stressed was because they had not been able to block out distractions and focus on themselves.
She noted that the aim of the sessions was to make people understand meditation and its benefits better.
Patrick said that meditation was not something mystical, saying that it could mean different things to different people, depending on their expectations.

“Some people do meditation when praying; some when they’re thinking of what they want for their lives when they’re looking for clarity.
“Others may meditate to be monks or gurus. Meditation is basically trying to find out what it is you want amidst all the distractions in the world.
“You’re trying to train your mind to be able to survive anything; that no matter all these distractions, `I’m going to focus on myself’,’’ she said.
She also noted that meditation was about an individual carrying out reflections and finding out what works for him.
“You might feel, ‘I don’t have enough sleep’. You might feel you’re sad all the time. You might feel like, ‘Nobody likes me.’
“I might be a happy person today, I might not be happy tomorrow. So how do I feel happy again?
“Then I try to remember, ‘Okay I was happy yesterday. Why was I happy? I did this and that’.
“I will go back and do those things that made me happy. If you’re depressed, find out what is making you feel that way and try to block that pathway,’’ Patrick said.
She urged people to start meditating to be able to deal with stress better.
The class was tagged, ‘Guided Meditation A-Z’.
