Medical tourism takes centre stage as Bimbo Afolabi emerges 2016 Miss Oyo State

Silverstone Communications, the propeller of Miss Oyo State Beauty Pageant injected classical innovations into the programmes of event which led to the emergence of Miss Bimbo Afolabi, a student of the University of Ibadan as the most beautiful lady in the state.

Invited guests and tourism buffs who gathered at the Banquet Hall of Premier Hotel on Saturday  2 January, 2016 did not only feed their eyes with exciting gaits of awesomely bevy of ladies , colourful dresses  and spectacular cultural  dances, they also listened to good music, folklore and dirge for  Bola Davies, the late City People News Magazine  ace reporter.

Mayor Issac Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Silverstone Communications lived to his promise of making the event one to remember not only by organising a superlative entertainment show, but by introducing a public discourse for the good of the public in the area of Medical tourism which was succinctly delivered by Professor Azeez Adeduntan, Oyo State Commissioner for Health and Social Services who incidentally bagged the best performing Commissioner in the state.

Professor Adeduntan emphasised on the need for Nigerians to take holiday and rest as he pointed out that work without rest shortens the road to the grave.

He urged Nigerians to embrace medical tourism which entails among others a free medical check up of one’s state of health before sickness comes in. “We don’t need to wait for the time when our biological organs break down or become inactive before we visit a medical centre”. This, he said, was not only preventive, but engenders living long on the face of the earth.

Professor Adeduntan disclosed that the government of Oyo State under Senator Abiola Ajimobi would ensure the turning around of medical facilities in the state to complement the gospel of medical tourism.

Also,  two  journalists, Messrs Wale Ojo Lanre, Tourism Editor, Nigerian Tribune and Dare Adekanmbi, Political Correspondent, Nigerian Tribune who is also  the winner of the NMMA  Best Political Reporter of the Year  2016 were not only celebrated but declared  as Brand Mentors for   Miss Oyo State Beauty Pageant.

According to Mayor Isaac Brown “this is a fundamental innovation which will be observed every year. We have come to the realisation of the fact that journalists who celebrated others must also be celebrated particularly those who have caught niche in various aspects of news reporting and communications. We have beautiful ones among us, they too deserve global notice like the beautiful ladies’.

Also coasting home with  media award of recognition for excellence and beautiful conduct of programmes  are Fresh FM which is regarded as No 1 FM radio station in Oyo State, an award which commanded the presence of Apostle Yinka Aiyefele and Space FM , which earned the  best in Standard in ethics Compliant  station for 2016, an award received in person by Giwa Deji Osibogun.

Those who performed beautifully at the public sector were commended and honoured with awards, Professor Adeduntan bagged the most outstanding Commissioner of the year for its ministry stride in health while Isaac Ishola, Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources bagged Commissioner of the Year on his stride at keeping Oyo State clean.

Four local government chairmen   bagged  the award of excellence  for  making the grassroots beautiful:  Messrs Wasiu Olatunbosun, Ibadan North West, Bamigboye Joshua, Orire, Saheed Yusuf Alaran, Iseyin  and Ademola Adewuyi, Egbeda.

Honourable Temitope Akintoye, Sugar, who was described as “the father of physically challenged people in Oyo State bagged the award of Excellence in Affectionate Philantropism for the physically challenged in the state.

Mayor Brown who commended the Speaker of Oyo State, Honourable Michael Adeyemo, who was represented by for his special interest in bringing out the best and most beautiful people in the state.

He pointed out “I cannot underestimate the contributions of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Honourable Speaker of Oyo State and Honourable Temitope Akintoye, Sugar for their consistent and personal interest at showcasing the beautiful part of the state.”

Mayor Brown revealed that, the star prize or the year, a car, would be presented to Miss Oyo State 2016 by Honourable Akintoye, who is the donor of the car on 14 February 2017, the day for the lovers – Valentine’s Day.
