Medical Expert counsels community on healthy lifestyles, regular medical checks

Published by

A medical expert and lecturer at University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City, Mrs. Patience Adamolekun, on Wednesday advised Nigerians to cultivate the habit of checking their medical status regularly, especially blood pressure and sugar level.

Adamolekun made this plea during a free Medical outreach sponsored by Dr Ayodeji Oritedi, held at the palace of Owa of Idanre Kingdom in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo state, with over 5000 people across the federal constituency benefitted from the outreach

The medical practitioner lamented that many people take issues of their health with levity but said health issues like hypertension and excessive blood sugar should be given adequate attention advising not to wait till the symptoms are out of hands.

Speaking during the free Medical outreach, for Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency, Oritedi said the medical outreach was borne out of his concern for the health challenges of the people of the state especially at this critical period occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal.

He said the gesture will go a long way to cushion the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy on the people of the federal constituency of Idanre and Ifedore local government areas.

According to him, this programme became imperative in view of the fact that vulnerable people pay little attention to their health challenges due to the economy situations.

“I know the feelings and impact of the subsidy removal on the masses and especially the people at the grassroots”.

“The issue of taking care of their health may definitely not be part of their concerns as they tend to fend for what to eat. So I decided to do this for my people and across other communities”.

The APC Chieftain however, promised to extend the outreach across the 18 local government areas of the state as part of his contribution to the state, saying the health sector cannot be left in the hands of the government alone.

Speaking, the Owa of Igbara-Oke, Oba Adefarakanmi Agbede, commended the initiative of the APC chieftain, saying it will encourage healthy living among the people and said “going to see a doctor and taking care of yourselves may spare you so many things.

“But from observation and my experience, I know people are reluctant to go and check their medical status. This will provide an avenue, or option for people to go for medical checkups because early diagnosis saves lives and money.”

He called on other individuals within the community to emulate Oritedi and give back to their immediate environment.

Traditional chiefs of idanre kingdom also utilized the opportunity to check their health status while some of them were screened and went home with free drugs.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Bosede Ogundairo commended the organizer of the outreach and urged individuals and corporate organisations to compliment government efforts, by providing quality healthcare to people at the grassroots since the government cannot do it alone.

“I love the free medical outreach, I thank our Dr. Oritedi for providing us with free Medical test and medical screening. May God continue to strengthen and be with him.”
