Media instrumental to our success story ― Peace Corps

THE Nasarawa State Commandant of Peace Corps Nigeria (PCN), Bala Joshua has attributed the feat attained by the organization to the relentless effort of the media in fighting for their course.

The State Commandant, stated this on Friday, in Lafia the state capital, when members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa state chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He explained that, the publicity lavished on the Corps by the media in the country contributed immensely to earn the corp it’s current status of being passed into law by the National Assembly. 

“The media in Nigeria has been so supportive to the Nigeria Peace Corps. Since we began our journey in 1998, the support of the print media is what brought us to the level we are today. If not for the media, our voices won’t have been heard in the country,” he said.

The Commandant, also clarified issues of identity conflict between it’s corps and National Unity and Peace Corps saying the Peace Corps harmonised bill has nothing to do with National Unity and Peace Corps.

He explained further the clause which suggested the sister formation, National Unity and Peace Corps was outrightly rejected and not part of the Peace Corps bill hence, the need for the media not to portray them as one but two different bodies.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel in the state, Comrade Suleiman Abubakar expressed gratitude to the state commandant for receiving the chapel members and solicited for closer ties so as to project the activities of the Corps objectively.
