The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has inducted a total number of 436 medical doctors trained by Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, since the College of Health Science took off in the institution in the 2008/2009 academic session.

This was disclosed by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the institution, Professor Olufemi Awotunde, on Saturday, when the institution presented another 62 medical graduating students, drawn from the 2024/2025 academic session, for MDCN induction.

The Provost, in his address, noted that inductees have been drilled in-depth in the three domains of medical science — knowledge, skills, and attitude — exposing them to the science of medicine and the art of healing and profound understanding that would guide them in their medical profession.

He challenged the new inductees to be innovators, uphold the ethics of the profession, and update and upgrade themselves periodically to ensure their contributions shape the future of healthcare in Nigeria. The provost also noted that Bowen University has remained a pillar of strength, ensuring the production of world-class medical doctors.

Speaking in the same vein, some of the parents, in a chat with pressmen, affirmed the academic and research medical skills excellence alongside Godliness education that the university has exposed their children to.

One of them, Mr. Anthony Oyewole, a parent from Abuja, described Bowen University as a blessing to Nigeria in terms of producing future leaders of integrity, skillful in their fields, to reform the nation.

He stated that upon hearing about Bowen University, he had to withdraw his son from one university and enroll him in Bowen to study medicine, even though he had to start all over again.

“I did not regret my action; even my second child has joined the institution. At Bowen University, parents can be assured of academic stability, excellence, moral education, and Godliness. Bowen University is a recommended faith-based institution where skill education in various fields is attainable with integrity education. As a matter of fact, Bowen University is a character-molding center for future leaders,” he said.

Another parent and president of the Lagos Central Baptist Conference, Rev. (Dr.) Victor Bamidele Akerele, confirmed the quality of tertiary education with emphasis on character-building and the development process in students before ever presenting them to the labour market.

He noted that three of his children in the institution are both sound academically and morally, saying that he could see in them the moral education, the fear of God, readiness to serve God and humanity, the university has impacted them.

“From all indications, Bowen University is a great citadel of learning established to produce reliable graduates for Nigerian society and beyond. Indeed, Bowen University is a blessing to Nigeria for the public to embrace and the government to support to ensure its sustenance,” he urged.

The Chief Medical Director of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Professor Adetokunbo Fabanwo, asserted that Bowen University products are reliable and well-trained to function efficiently in the health sector.

According to him, his hospital would continue to accommodate many more of them in the system.

Meanwhile, Bowen University Vice Chancellor, Professor Jonathan Babalola, in his address, noted that the new inductees have been trained to become excellent and godly to serve the nation with all sense of integrity and fidelity for the country to appreciate Bowen University’s products in their specialised fields.

The VC therefore enjoined the government to ensure the provision of a conducive working environment that will encourage the new entrants to retain them in the system.
