The Vice Chancellor of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Professor Francis Igbasan, has announced that the university will matriculate over 930 students and graduate 281 students in its series of events lined up for the matriculation and convocation ceremonies this week.
The Vice-Chancellor, who made this known during a press conference at the university on Monday, stated that the 13th matriculation ceremony of the university will be held on Wednesday while the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies will be held on Friday.
According to Vice Chancellor Igbasan, the spread of the graduands are 24 first class, 116 second class upper division, 65 second class lower division, and 13 third class. Others included 21 postgraduate and 42 diploma graduands.
The Vice-Chancellor, while speaking on the recent developments of the university, stated that seven courses have been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), had commenced master’s and PhD programmes in some courses, and had commissioned many new buildings and are building more to serve the university and its host communities better.
“Before the next convocation exercise in 2026, our intention is to establish more bachelor’s programmes in engineering and postgraduate programmes in some courses as well,” he noted.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that, as a vision-driven university, there is no room for social vices. In light of this, he urged the students to be of good moral and social behaviours, adding, “This is because our certificate is a testament of our integrity and an affirmation that the recipient has been found worthy in learning and in character.”
Vice Chancellor Igbasan revealed that the convocation lecture, titled ‘A nation in Transition: Managing the yearning of its restless youths’, will be delivered by former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otueke, Bayelsa State, Professor Ebenezer Aluko.
In his address, the chairman of the ceremonial committee, Dr Lawal Babatunde, outlined the one-week activity of the convocation ceremony.
He stated that the one-week events will include personality interviews, valedictory and impartation service, the Vice Chancellor’s Cup men’s final, alumni night, the convocation play, and finally the conferment of diplomas and degrees.
The Acting Director of the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Dr Astor Abuh, said that apart from the core courses and degrees the university offers, all their students also undergo a four-year training in fashion design, barbing and hairdressing, paint making, and phone repairs, among others, and are awarded certificates at the end of the four-year training.
