MC Oluomo emerges acting NURTW zonal chairman

Published by

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo, was appointed as the acting Zonal Chairman of the Southwest Zone 2 of the union on Thursday.

Akinsanya was unanimously appointed to the position at the Zonal Quadrennial Delegate Conference held at the zonal office of the union in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

Speaking at the event, the Acting General Secretary of the union, Comrade Kayode Agbeyanju, stated, “Since the position of the zonal chairman cannot be left vacant, there was a need to elect an acting chairman.”

According to him, “Akinsanya will be the acting chairman of the union pending the election, which is scheduled to take place in the next two weeks.”

He further emphasised that “the Zonal delegate conference in session appreciates the governments of Ekiti and Lagos states for their support in making the union functional in their respective states.

“The session also specifically thanked the Ekiti state council for holding firm in their belief and trust in the union despite intimidation to embrace the park management system.

“The conference resolved to affirm the position of Alh. Musliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) as the acting zonal chairman in the absence of the zonal chairman, Chief Olalekan Folorunsho.

“The delegate conference subsequently passed the resolution that the duo of Ekiti and Lagos State did not meet the mandatory constitutional provisions to conduct the delegate election and consequently resolved to postpone to a new date of October 19, 2023, for the completion of the process.”

Akinsanya’s appointment was made after a resolution was reached due to the absence of the Zonal Chairman, Chief Olalekan Folorunsho, at the Zonal Quadrennial Delegate Conference.

Also at the conference, the delegates appealed to the Osun, Oyo, and Ondo State governments to lift the ban placed on the union in their respective states.

In his acceptance speech, the acting Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, promised not to let the union down in any way.

He pledged to make the union more vibrant through his relentless contributions to its advancement, and he also committed to working towards the union’s unification and oneness to ensure its progress.

In his submission, Olayioye Adesina, Zonal Secretary of the union, thanked all stakeholders of the union present on the occasion for making the activities a reality and a successful one at the end of the day.
