The secretary of the Middle Belt Youth Forum (MBYF), Comrade Bishop Matthew, has advised the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr David Ombugadu, to accept the defeat and judgement of the appeal court affirming Abdullahi Sule as the duly elected governor in the March 18th governorship election in the state for the overall development of the state.
MBYF is a socio-political organisation comprising states in the Middle Belt region, where Mathew is currently serving as secretary.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, voided the verdict of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sacked Governor Sule of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
While reacting to the Appeal Court judgement in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Friday in Lafia, Comrade Matthew said it was a victory for democracy and a confirmation that the judiciary is equally the last hope of the common man.
“PDP should understand that leadership comes from God; they should accept the defeat and the judgement in good faith and support the administration of Gov. Sule to move the state forward in terms of development and progress.
“This is because the earlier judgement by the election petition tribunal was a miscarriage of justice and biassed; the victory at the appeal court validated the people’s mandate given to Sule in the March 18 governorship election.
“The peaceful atmosphere witnessed in the state today signifies that the masses are happy with the appeal court judgement,” he said.
Comrade Matthew, who is also an APC stalwart and a former Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the state, said the progressive family and supporters were optimistic of another round of victory at the Supreme Court if the opposition party, the PDP, heads to court.
The MBYF Scribe, however, urged Gov. Sule to extend a hand of fellowship to the PDP and join him to move the state forward as he settles for governance.
“As he settles for governance to deliver the dividend of democracy, the governor should sustain carrying everybody along, irrespective of political, religious, and tribal affiliations, as he is known for,” he said.
