May Day: PDP chieftain seeks govt support for workers

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in Oyo State, Dr Kazeem Abidikugu, has called on the government at all levels to make Nigerian workers’ welfare top priority.

Abidikugu, made the call while felicitating workers on the occasion of this year’s workers’ day celebration.

In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, the United Kingdom-based Psychiatric Consultant who was a PDP House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan South East/ North East Federal Constituency in the build-up to the 2023 general election noted that it is only when workers are well motivated that they give their best to whatever they do on the job.

The statement reads in parts: “I rejoice with the workers especially in Oyo State on this year’s occasion of Labour’s Day. I am part of their joyous occasion as an employer and lover of Labour.

“I feel workers’ pain on the current hardship in the country but with our prayers, let’s be hopeful that the country will be turn around for good in no distant time.

“I equally called on governments at all level to make the welfare of workers a priority because they are the pillars upon which a successful country can be built.

“I Congratulate His Excellency, the Oyo State Governor for being a workers’ friendly governor. Your prompt payment of salaries and pensions for the workers since you assumed office in 2019 has put you on a high pedestal among other governors.”
