A trader has dragged her husband before an Aggege Customary court in Lagos State, over allegations of battery and cruelty.
The complainant, Mrs Fadekemi Ajayi had approached the court seeking for the dissolution of her marriage claiming that her husband, Hammeed does not take care of her and her three children.
She claimed that her 15-year-old marriage was fraught with many problems.
“My husband has never been responsible. He treats me anyhow, even to the point that he embarrasses me publicly. There was a day that he came home and suddenly started accusing me of being the brain behind his misfortune when he has never lifted a finger to work.
“He is a furniture maker but he has never bothered about renting a shop to practice his trade. I foot the bills in the house and all he does is assault me and beat me.
“ I use my meagre resources to take care of the children and yet he still makes outrageous demands. If I don’t give him money he flares up and starts tearing my clothes and even threatening to burn my clothes. My children are even afraid of him. He lashes out at them in anger for no reason at all,” she claimed.
She asked the court to end the marriage and give her custody of her children.
The respondent was, however, absent in court to answer to the allegations. The matter has been adjourned till February 8 for continuation of trial.
