Maritime operators hail debut of ‘ABC of Shipping’

IT has been commendation galore from major shipping enthusiasts for the ‘ABC of Shipping and Ports Operation in Nigeria’, a new publication which has made its debut to the public in Lagos.

Among those who have hailed the book and its author, Mr. Charles Odeyovwi Okorefe, is Otunba Kunle Folarin, Chairman, Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC), who observed that the book had something unique about the industry.

“It has presented the fundamental and basic instruments to understanding the intricacies and procedures that are critical factors to shipping and port operations in Nigeria and beyond”, he stated.

While commending the scope and depth of the publication slated for launch at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, the NPCC boss added that “students, researchers and lecturers will also find the book useful and a formidable reference material and guide”.

On his part, Prof. Bamidele Badejo of the Geography and Regional Planning and Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has serious reasons to recommend it to those in shipping and related businesses.

“This is a well written and thought-out book that should fulfill the academic and inquisitive need of students, researchers and shipping practitioners as well as that of an informed mind seeking knowledge, understanding and information about general shipping and ports operation in Nigeria”, Prof. Badejo remarked.

To grace the launch of the book at the NIIA are Otunba Folarin, who will be the guest speaker; with Dr. Vicky Haastrup, the CEO of ENL Consortium, as the Chief Launcher; and Hadiza Bala Usman, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), who is special guest.

Other dignitaries at the event commencing at 10.00am will include Barrister Hassan Bello, the Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC); Dr. Olorunmibe Mammora, Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA); Barrister Chris Akiri, Managing Partner, Chris W.A. Akiri & Co among many others.
