Entrance of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday, granted approval to the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta to award Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degrees.
This development is in line with the mission of his administration towards improving the educational provision in the state to meet the demand for technological and vocational manpower needed for development.
The Head, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Yemi Ajibola, said that the message of the Governor was conveyed by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, in a letter dated March 23, 2021, signed by the State Director, Primary and Higher Education, Dr Olanloye Waheed.
The letter addressed to the Acting Rector, Dr Adeoye Odedeji, stated as follows: “His Excellency, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun MFR has graciously granted approval to commence the process of affiliation with Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago- Iwoye, for the purpose of running B.Tech programmes”.
It further explained that the approval would be in tandem with the requirements approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The B.Tech approval to MAPOLY is also a confirmation of the Governor’s keen interest in education to align it with the demands of modern trends which places a premium on technological and vocational skill acquisition.
It would be recalled that Governor Abiodun, on the assumption of office, revived MAPOLY with the pronouncement to return the Institution to status quo ante.
While reacting to this development, the Acting Rector maintained that the programme would retain and sustain the hands-on policy of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) policy.
Odedeji explained that the B.Tech will be, mainly, for National Diploma graduates of programmes accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in the Polytechnic.
“The reason is that we want to give maximum benefits to all our products and their counterparts from other institution within the context of the programmes accredited in the Polytechnic,” he added.
The acting rector assures that the programme would begin before the end of this year, as soon as all arrangements have been concluded with OOU and NUC.
