Many feared killed in Rivers tanker explosion

Published by

Unidentified number of persons were said to have been burnt to death in a tanker explosion at the Eleme section of the East-West Road, Rivers State.

The incidents, which involved a tanker loaded with petroleum products, happened around 9:45pm on Friday.

Tribune Online learnt that many of the vehicles in a traffic queue were affected as the tanker exploded adjacent to the Indorama Petro-Chemical Company located along the Akpojo-Onne axis of the East-West Road — leading to some critical national assets.

According to a source, two very loud sounds came from the petro-Chemical company with people shouting that a tanker had exploded and started raging.

While the actual cause of the incident was yet to be confirmed, another source claimed that the explosion happened following a collision between truck carrying substances and other vehicles, adding that he counted no fewer than four dead bodies as of the time of filing the report.
