Manicure at home like an expert

Getting a quality nail art in the comfort of your home is very easy and now is the best time as going to the salon is not an easy option because of the coronavirus pandemic.

With the right tools, products and a little bit of patience, you can create a professional-looking result without stepping foot outside. In addition, manicuring at home is an excuse to relax and unwind.

Manicure products you will need include nail polish remover, nail file, nail cutter, nail buffer block, nail polish, hand moisturizer and cuticle cutter.

 

Step 1: Clean your nails with polish remover

This will take off all polish, even glitter, away from the nails. Even if you don’t have polish on, the polish remover will help get rid of any oil or dirt that could warp your polish. However, it can over-dry your nails and leave them brittle, so it is best to work quickly and not use too much.

 

Step 2: Clip, file, and buff.

Clip nails first, if necessary. Then file gently, moving in one direction to get your tips square, round, or somewhere in between. Finally, buff the tops and sides of your nails lightly with a nail buffer to create a smooth surface.

 

Step 3: Push back your cuticles

Once your cuticles are softened, you can trim them with special clippers, also called cuticle cutters. The pointed, plier-like shape ensures precision in clipping the delicate skin around your nails. Look for steel clippers, as they will retain their sharpness for longer. If you prefer to leave your cuticles intact, use an orange stick or steel cuticle tool to push them back gently.

 

Step 4: Apply base coat

Basecoat protects your nails from discolouration and damage and also ensures the colour lasts longer without chipping. Choose a clear base coat that works with both regular and gel polish to give yourself flexibility with your at-home manicure.

 

Step 5: Apply your first coat of colour

Apply a coat of your color of choice. Make sure you get the brush all the way down to the cuticle and into the corners of your nail. Maximum coverage on the first coat makes the second coat a breeze. Just keep the layer thin.

 

Step 6: Apply your second coat of colour

After waiting two full minutes for your first coat to dry, apply another coat of polish. Experts recommend following the same principles with your second coat as with the first – a thin, even layer that gradually builds up the colour.

 

Step 7: Finish with a topcoat.

A topcoat puts the finishing touch on your manicure. Applying it will prevent your polish from chipping and adds a beautiful high-shine look.

 

Step 8: Clean up and let it dry

The final step in creating a salon-quality manicure at home is tidying up any mistakes. Use a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover and folds it to create a more precise shape. Then drag it around your nail to get rid of any excess nail colour. You can then sit back and let your manicure finish drying
