It’s official! Erik ten Hag will be joining Manchester United as the club’s manager after the EPL 2021-22. Based on reports, the Dutchman who is currently managing Ajax will be the club’s manager for three years with an option to extend for another year.
Manchester United has been the talk of many football fans as they are having a hard time securing a spot in the Champions League. It now takes a miracle for the Red Devils to be able to move on to this UEFA tournament.
And so, before you place your Man Utd bets on the bookies at bettingsites24.ng, you need to understand what the team has to be able to pull off to get to the Champions League.
It’s not shocking that the team has been struggling to perform this season. In November, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired by the club because of the team’s poor performance, especially after the loss to Watford with 4-1.
He was then replaced by the current and temporary manager of the team, Ral Rangnick. Rangnick’s contract is only until the end of the current season, and this is why it is expected that someone else will be running the team after him.
Next Manager: Erik ten Hag
On April 21, Manchester United officially announced that they are appointing Erik ten Hag as Men’s First Team Manager until 2025 with the option to extend to one more year. The club’s football director, John Murtough, spoke about how Erik deserves the new position.
In the statement about the recent happening posted on the Manchester United official website, Murtough said, “During the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proved himself to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe, renowned for his team’s attractive, attacking football and commitment to youth.
“In our conversations with Erik leading up to this appointment, we were deeply impressed with his long-term vision for returning Manchester United to the level we want to be competing at, and his drive and determination to achieve that.”
The 52-year-old is currently running Ajax alongside Mitchell van der Gaag, his assistant. Ten Hag is said to be bringing his team including his assistant when he officially becomes the manager.
On the Manchester United site, Ten Hag spoke about how great of an honor it is to be the team’s next manager. He said, “It is a great honor to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead. I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.
“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”
Meanwhile, Ajax’s chief executive and former United goalkeeper spoke about the upcoming changes. Edwin van der Sar said, “Four and a half years is a good amount of time, but we would have liked to have kept Erik at Ajax for longer. He is going to make the step to one of the biggest clubs in the world, in a fantasy league.
“We owe Erik a lot of thanks for what he has achieved with Ajax so far, but we are not done yet. At the end of the season, I will look back more extensively on his departure. For now, what matters is the final games of the season in which we all want to bring home the league title.”
Ten Hag also expressed that he’s just happy that Manchester United has finally officially announced this change. He said, “I’m happy that it has been finalized and that it has been officially announced. That clarity is important.
“But I only have one interest now and that’s these last five games. I want to finish my time here on a positive note, by winning the league. By doing so, we’ll qualify directly for the Champions League. Ajax belongs there.”
Murtough also wishes Ten Hag luck and said, “We wish Erik the best of luck as he focuses on achieving a successful end to the season at Ajax and look forward to welcoming him to Manchester United this summer.”
Ten Hag as the Red Devils’ Manager
Ten Hag’s final day as the boss of Ajax is on May 15. After that, he should be able to settle in with Man Utd during the pre-season.
His first game as the team’s manager on the field will be in a match with Liverpool in The Match Centenary Cup at the Rajamangla Stadium in Thailand on July 12. After this, the team will then head to Australia for a match against Melbourne Victory on July 15 and Crystal Palace on July 19.
