Man remanded in prison for allegedly raping 13-year-old girl to death

A 30-year-old man, identified as Ahmed Matunma wojuekun, was on Friday remanded in Ile-Ife prison custody by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping to death a 13-year-old girl.

Wojuekun is facing a two- count charge bothering with rape and murder.

The Magistrate, Mrs Habibatu Bashiru, ordered that the defendant is kept in prison custody due to the magnitude of the offense committed.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Olusegun Elisha, had earlier informed the court that the defendant committed the offense on November 17, 2017, at about 8:00 am around Ifetedo area, Mofoworade village, Osogbo.

Elisha said the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of one Dupe Lawrence, who he raped to death, explaining the incident led to an uproar within the community before the police were called upon and the accused was brought to the court.

The prosecutor said the offense contravened sections 221(1), 319(1) of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11 laws of Osun, 2003.

The plea of the defendant was not taken and the Magistrate adjourned the case till Jan. 22, 2018 for a mention.
