MAN, Oron rector bags ‘CEO of the year’ award

The Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, Commodore Duja Emma Effedua, has won the Maritime CEO of the year award at the NewsDirect 8th Anniversary Lecture/Excellence Awards held in Lagos, recently.

The award which was presented by the Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Mr Muda Yusuf, cited the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost maritime institution by the Commodore Effedua led management as major criteria for the award.

Some of the criteria listed by the organisers of the award include: Review of MAN, Oron curriculum with imputes from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), REFAST of Ghana and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); remodeling and renovation of several classrooms and lecture theatres equipped with smart electronics boards; remodeling of the Academy’s abandoned swimming pool; remodeling of the Academy’s library and auditorium; procurement of several books of reference that were distributed to cadets; review of cadets’ standing orders and academic regulations.

 

; Organisation of training seminars and workshops for staff; Ongoing negotiation with the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) for onboard ship training for cadets; Introduction of free mandatory short courses  for cadets; Renovation of MAN, Oron medical centre; and commencement of staff audit.
