A middle-aged man has reportedly taken his life after allegedly maiming his wife in Delta State.

The wife, Evangelist Mrs Promise, is currently lying critically at the intensive care unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

The man, whose identity has yet to be established, committed the act on Monday.

He reportedly inflicted severe machete cut on his wife before killing himself with the same machete in Asaba.

The husband was said to have laid siege on his waiting who was billed to return from a journey that Monday evening.

Immediately she breezed into the house, the killer husband allegedly descended on her with a machete, peeling off parts of her scalp.

A son of the couple was said to have immediately alerted the police, but on arrival, the husband had allegedly killed himself.

According to a journalist, Alicia Dominic Okobi, who posted the development on her Facebook page, the incident happened on Monday.

Her Facebook post read: “This is Evangelist Mrs Promise lying down critically at the intensive care unit of the Federal Medical Centre Asaba.

“Her husband inflicted these injuries on her with a machete on Monday evening.

“She returned from a journey that evening, little did she know that the husband had prepared to kill her.

“As soon as she entered their room the man started cutting from her head.

“The (their) son then alerted neighbours and then ran to the police who were on patrol to report the case.

“Only for the police to arrive the scene to meet the man on the floor.

“He used the same machete to kill himself.

“His body has been deposited in the mortuary. “What a world?

“This woman has been going through hell in her marriage.

“There are so many women enduring their marriages they can’t confide in anyone until something terrible happens to them.

“Please there is a cry for help, Evangelist Promise needs attention financially and otherwise. Prayers should also be made on her behalf. God bless you.”

Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DPS Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident to Nigerian Tribune.

According to him, “yes, the matter was reported through distress calls to us! The husband/suspect died at FMC where we had rushed him and his wife/   victim for treatment. Case is under investigation, pls!.”
