Man leaves church to jump into Lagos lagoon

Published by

There was confusion on Sunday afternoon as a man jumped off the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos into the lagoon.

As at the time of filing this report, the victim of the suspected suicide had only been identified as a medical doctor.

Investigations by Nigerian Tribune, however, revealed that the man was driving a car owned by a woman, when he stopped and jumped into the lagoon.

The particulars of the vehicles had the name of a certain Mrs Orji, but there were two male occupants as at the time of the incident.

It was further gathered that the man was returning from the church, when he suddenly stopped on the Third Mainland Bridge and jumped into the lagoon.

The yet to be identified man was driving a Nissan sport utility vehicle with registration no.  LND 476 EE.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the deceased had collected the vehicle from the driver and was driving the vehicle towards the mainland, when he stopped and decided to end his life.

A police source told Nigerian Tribune that “they were coming from a church on the island and when they got to Adeniji Adele, he told the driver to stop the vehicle.

“He took the control of the vehicle from the driver and drove himself to a short distance.”

The source added that “when he got to the Third Mainland Bridge, he stopped the vehicle, came out and jumped into the lagoon.”

As at the time of filing this report, operatives of the Marine Police, Rapid Response Squad and officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were still battling to see if they could rescue the victim of the accident.

The image maker in charge if the state police command, Olarinde Famous- Cole could not be reached as at the time of filing this report for his reaction.
