UNEASY calm is building up in Onicha, Enugu- Ezike Community in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, as a young man allegedly killed his brother over occupation of a room apartment in their father’s house.
Sources said that the two brothers, who had already built their separate houses, returned to their country home during the Yuletide and insisted they would occupy a particular room apartment instead of going to sleep in their respective houses on the New Year Day.
Although the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu confirmed the incident, he, however, said the cause of the quarrel was yet to be fully ascertained.
Amarizu said, “It was gathered that on that fateful day, Leonard Mba had allegedly engaged his brother identified as Cletus Mba in a fight over a yet to be established issue and in the process, it was reported that Leonard Mba hit Cletus Mba, his brother, with an object which left him unconscious.
“Cletus Mba was later rushed to St Mary’s Hospital, Ogurute, for treatment and was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital morgue, Ogurute, Enugu Ezike for autopsy just as the homicide section of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department of the Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigations with the arrest of Leonard Mba who is now helping in the investigations”, the Police spokesman added.
He dismissed reports of tension in the community, urging the people in the area to remain calm and go about their normal duties.
