Man jailed 15 years for attempt to steal okada

For attempting to steal a Bajaj motorcycle, a 23-year-old security guard, Abu Mohammed, was, on Tuesday, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Ikeja High Court, Lagos .

Mohammed, who tried to snatch the motorcycle belonging to one Rabiu Mohammed, was found guilty by Justice Sedotane Ogunsanya.

“The court finds the defendant guilty as charged and is, hereby, sentenced to 15 years in prison on both counts which would commence from the date of remand,” the judge ruled.

According to the prosecutor, Adebayo Haroun, the incident took place in June 19, 2012, at Oduduwa Crescent, Ikeja GRA.

Haroun further said that the convict, along with another at large, attempted to rob Rabiu, who is a commercial motorcyclist, of his Bajaj motorcycle with registration LSR 403 QA.

“The convict, alongside another at large, had sought the assistance of the motorcyclist when he went to purchase fuel at Conoil Filling Station, Ikeja, after which he requested that Rabiu drive them to Ikeja GRA, which he obliged.

“When they got to Oduduwa Crescent, they ordered him to stop the motorcycle and immediately brought out a substance that looked like pepper and a jack knife to snatch the motorcycle from him.

“The victim luckily got assistance from passersby, who were uniformed men, but on their way to the airport. The convict was apprehended while his accomplice escaped.

“The convict and the motorcycle were later taken to State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), for further investigation,” Haroun said.
