A 44-year-old man, Aderanti Akinola, on Wednesday appeared in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing jewellery worth N150,000.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 17 at Fajuyi Road, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant stole a Rolex Wristwatch, Silver earring, Silver ring and Silver necklace, all valued at N150, 000, the property of Remilekun Paul, adding that the defendant assaulted Remilekun by pushing her into the gutter.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 252, 351, 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of theft and assault.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Babawale Omodogbe, who applied for the bail of the defendant in the most liberal term, pledged that his client would not jump bail but would provide substantial sureties.
The Magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Owolawi also said the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction as well as produce two recent passport photographs each.
He adjourned the case until March 4, for hearing.
