Man in court over alleged burglary, stealing

A 25-year-old man, Mohammed Tairu, who allegedly broke into a house and stole property valued at N435,900 was on Wednesday brought before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Tairu is facing a three-count charge of breaking and entry, stealing and felony.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeoshun told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large to commit the offence between July 25 and July 28 at Aketegbo Village, Seme Border, Badagry area of Lagos.

Adeoshun said that Tairu broke and entered a house of the complainant, Eugene Ijiwa, with intent to commit a felony.

“After entering the house, the accused stole two generating sets valued at N109, 000; One Samsung Plasma television valued at N45, 000; and one radio cassette player valued at N28, 000.

“Tairu also made away with one DSTV decoder valued at N9, 900; one standing fan valued at N8, 000; one DVD CD player valued at N5, 000; and a cash of N198, 000,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 409, 305, and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Lazarus Hotepo, granted the accused bail of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Hotepo adjourned hearing in the case until Dec. 13.
