Man in court for alleged car theft

A 22-year-old man, Kelvin Nnemeka, who allegedly stole a Toyota Camry car, valued at N1.8 million, was, on Friday, charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The unemployed defendant, whose address was not stated, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

Nnemeka, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Prosecutor, W/Sgt. Chekube Okeh told the court that the offences were committed on Nov. 17, 2019, at Christ Embassy Church, Oregun, Lagos.

Okeh said that the complainant, Mr Ikong Bartholomew, said that he parked his Toyota Camry car at the church’s car park and went for service.

The prosecutor also said that on his return, Bartholomew said that he could not find the car again.

Okeh told the court that the car was later traced to Lafenwa in Abeokuta, Ogun, while the defendant was arrested.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Akinde, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with one surety in like sum.

Akinde, thereafter, adjourned the case till Feb. 13, for mention. (NAN)
