Man in court for alleged assault

A 35-year-old man, Adekunle Shina, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one Emmanuel Oluwashina.

Shina, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov 11, at about 9:00 p.m. at Oke-Age area of Ado-Ekiti.

Okunade alleged that the accused bit the complainant on the ear while he was trying to settle a dispute between the accused and his wife.

The offence contravened the provisions of ‎ Section 338 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

Okunade urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assembly his witnesses.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Emmanuel Sumonu, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Dec 10.
