Authorities in Pakistan have charged a man with murder after he allegedly shot and killed the administrator of a community WhatsApp group for removing him from the chat, police confirmed on Saturday.
The incident took place on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region that has experienced sectarian violence in the past.
According to police documents obtained by AFP and statements from a local police official, the suspect, identified only as Ashfaq, has been formally accused of killing Mushtaq Ahmed.
Reports indicate that the dispute began when Mushtaq removed Ashfaq from the WhatsApp group following an argument. In a statement attributed to Mushtaq’s brother, it was claimed that both men had agreed to meet in an effort to resolve their differences. However, the meeting took a tragic turn when Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire, fatally shooting Mushtaq.
The statement further suggests that Ashfaq acted out of anger over his removal from the online group.
