Man docked over alleged theft of motorcycle

A 40-year-old man, Dauda Oluseye, was on Monday brought before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N230,000.

Oluseye, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 17, at about 4.30 p. m. at Atan Ota in Ogun.

Mustapha said that the defendant stole a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number WDE-191WH worth N230,000 belonging to the complainant, Alex Wenon.

“The defendant was caught by passers-by in the act of committing the offence and handed over to the Police,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390 (10 A) of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

In addition, he said that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until June 13, for further hearing.
