A 25-year-old man, Rilwan Adebayo, who allegedly stole N62,000 from a policewoman was on Wednesday docked before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, a resident of Agege area of Ikeja, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 7 at the Resolution Unit of the Nigeria Police, Elere Division, Agege, Ikeja.

He alleged that the defendant opened a drawer belonging to ASP Taiwo Ibikunle and stole N62,000 but the defendant was caught by Ibikunle’s colleague.
Nwangwu said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Aje-Afunwa adjourned the case until Sept.10 for mention.
