Man docked for allegedly defrauding woman of N2m in Oyo

THE police on Monday docked one Oyejide Ojedeji before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan in Oyo for allegedly obtaining N2 million from one Asifat Henry under false pretence.

Ojedeji, 45, of Shop 1, Mesan Bus Stop, Iyana Church, Olodo, Ibadan is being tried on a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and fraudulent conversion.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Adewale Amos told the court that Ojedeji and others now at large allegedly conspired to commit the offences sometimes in June 2017 at Bodija, Ibadan.

Amos said that Ojedeji, with the intent to defraud, allegedly obtained N2 million from Henry under the pretence of supplying bags of rice to her knowing same to be false.

He said that instead of supplying the rice, Ojedeji fraudulently converted the sum into his personal use.

Amos said the offences were contrary to Section 383 and punishable under section 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ojedeji’s Defence Counsel, Mr Theopilus Odenigbo urged the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jejelola Ogunbona granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct .2, for the mention.
