Man disguises, assaults wife for money to restock shop

A 35-year-old man, Tijjani Ahmadu Diye, disguised and assaulted his wife to raise money to restock his provision shop in Bauchi.

The man, to carry out his criminal intention, disguised as a woman in the middle of the night and raised an alarm in his house, claiming that armed robbers had invaded the compound.

He has, therefore, been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for the offences of assault, causing grievous hurt, and attempting to commit an offence, to wit, culpable homicide.

According to the Command PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili, on December 2, 2023, detectives attached to the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi, arrested the said Tijjani Ahmadu Diye.

He stated that upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene and evacuated the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she received necessary medical attention to save her life.

The PPRO added that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect admitted to the allegations against him without much resistance while talking to police operatives.

In his confession, the suspect said that he raised a false alarm, claiming that armed robbers had entered their house. He quickly entered the bedroom, met his wife, and asked her to cover her head with a scarf.

He then moved out of the room, covered his face with a scarf, armed himself with a pestle, returned to the bedroom, and started hitting her with the pestle.

The suspect further confessed that he intended to kill her in order to take their television set for sale to raise money to refurnish his nosedived shop.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation (CID) for discreet investigation to unravel more about the alleged occurrence.

Thereafter, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution accordingly.
