Man bags 14 months imprisonment for stealing N150,000 motorcycle

A Kaduna Upper Customary Court on Thursday sentenced one Abubakar Inuwa, 34, to 14 months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle valued at N150,000.

The judge, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, however, gave the convict an option of N15,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing the crime.

Emmanuel also ordered the convict to pay N150,000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.

Inuwa, who is a resident of Kinkino Street in Kaduna, was convicted on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and theft.

He pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that Inuwa and one Kasim Salisu, now at large, committed the offence on November 30 at about 3.30 pm in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna.

Leo said that the duo criminally conspired and approached one Abubakar Rabiu of Sabon Gaya in Kaduna in the pretence that they were interested in buying his Lifan brand of motorcycle.

“The duo convinced Rabiu to hand over the motorcycle to them for testing after which the duo took away the said motorcycle,” he said.

The prosecutor said that Inuwa used the same motorcycle as a collateral and collected N100,000 from one Musa Iliya of Ungwan Rimi in Kaduna.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 97, 312 and 78 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
