Man arrested for allegedly defiling seven-year-old girl in Anambra

30-year-old man, Chinonso Ezekiel Nwaebonyi has been arrested for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in Awka, the Anambra State Capital.

The suspect, a native of Izzi in Ebonyi state was apprehended after the victim’s mother reported the incident to the State Ministry of Women Affairs Awka.

According to the victim, the suspect had carnal knowledge of her for about five times.

“I usually go over to the next compound with my twin brother to play since the holiday started before the suspect started defiling me.

“He has had carnal knowledge of me for about 5 times, mostly on Mondays and Tuesdays,” she said.

According to her, the mother knew of the incident during one of the days she was bathing me and discovered that my private region was swollen.

She further added that the mother quickly approached the suspect’s guardians with the complaint after which she took her to a pharmacy before coming to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the suspect, who had earlier denied the allegation, later confessed to committing the crime, but claimed it was only once.

“I never forced the girl but only asked her to raise her clothes and lie down on the ground,” he claimed.

It was gathered that the victim and her twin brother came after ten years of childlessness of their parents.

Reacting, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ify Obinabo said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigations and prosecution.
