Man arraigned in Court for allegedly starving, assaulting 11-year-old stepson

A 45-year-old man, Aramide Tito, was arraigned on Monday at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly starving and assaulting his 11-year-old stepson.

Tito, whose address was not provided, faces charges of indecent treatment, assault, and attempted murder. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, informed the court that Tito committed the offences on August 17, at around 11:00 p.m. in Oke Ogbe Area, Atura, Badagry, Lagos.

According to Okuoimose, Tito is accused of beating and starving his stepson for three days and pouring hot water on him while he was asleep.

The prosecutor also alleged that Tito attempted to murder the boy during this period.

The offences are said to contravene Sections 135, 245, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Mr A.J. Aina granted Tito bail in the sum of ₦100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Each surety must be gainfully employed. The case has been adjourned to September 25 for further hearing.
