Man, 57, jailed 14 years for defiling 4-yr-old stepdaughter

AN Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has jailed a 57-year-old man, David Oluwatoba, for 14 years for defiling his four-year-old step-daughter.

Oluwatoba had defiled the little girl after bathing her at their Odo Usi Street, Awo Road, Igede-Ekiti home in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The convict is married to two wives, including the mother of the victim, who is his second wife; while the girl he abused was a product of the woman’s previous marriage.

The prosecution had held that on the day of the incident, the victim’s mother had gone out and Oluwatoba, defiled the girl after bathing her.

On arrival, her mother found that there were blood stains on the girl’s clothe, and that she was also bleeding from her private part.

This caused her to raise the alarm, following which the matter was reported to the police at the Igede-Ekiti Police divisional headquarters.

The trial judge, Justice Toyin Abodunde, held that the prosecution had proved the case beyond every reasonable doubt on the weight of evidence before the court.

The judge therefore sentenced him to 14 years in prison and held that the prison term would count from the day of conviction.

The incident had occurred on August 12, 2013 while Oluwatoba was first arraigned in court on November 27, 2015.

Exhibits tendered against Oluwatoba included photographs, a medical report on the rape and the statement of the accused at the police station, among others.
