The accused, a businessman, who resides at 22 Ondo St., Oworonshoki, Lagos is facing trial for obtaining by false pretences, fraud and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem told the court that the offences were committed on Jan. 17 at 75, Miyoki St., Oworonshoki in Lagos.
Akeem said that the accused approached the complainant, Mr Alfred Gimba to buy a used 4 runner jeep valued at N3.7 million.
“Based on trust, the complainant paid N1.8 million into the accused account without seeing the vehicle.
“Thereafter, the complainant demanded to see the vehicle before paying the balance but the accused declined,” he said.
Akeem added that since then, the complainant had been telling the accused to return his money.
”All efforts to retrieve his money failed and the case was reported at the police station.
“The accused was later arrested,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 312 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi granted the accused to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyemi – Ajayi adjourned the case until Oct. 22 for the mention.
