A 25-year-old man, Muis Lateef, who allegedly used fake N1,000 notes to stake a sporting bet, on Monday appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of forgery and cheating.

He, however, denied committing the offences.
The Prosecutor, Insp. A. Raphel, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 23, at No. 34, Isolo Road, Mushin.
He alleged that the defendant played a bet of N10, 000 and paid with N1,000 denominations, adding that it was discovered that five pieces were genuine while the remaining were fake, with the same serial number.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 323 and 372 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Salawu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties, each in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 12 for mention.
