Published by

The Society for Family Health (SHF) has decried low usage of treated insecticide nets by residents of Ogun towards the prevention of malaria.

This was disclosed by the Project Director, Global Fund Malaria, SFH, Mr John Ocholi, during the 2024 ITN campaign media orientation sponsored by SFH, held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday.

He encouraged residents to cultivate the habit of using mosquito nets in their various homes, submitting that the
the essence of distributing the nets for free as part of the government’s and health partners’ efforts to combat the scourge of malaria.

Ocholi explained that countries like Egypt, Algeria, and Cape Verde in Africa have achieved zero pandemics, hinting that it is against the background that SF, H, in partnership with the state government, will be distributing 3.1m nets across the 20 local government areas in the State.

He said, “The use of ITN would help a lot in reducing the financial burden committed to medical care of malaria and therefore makes more resources available for the household to take care of other basic needs like feeding, accommodation, schooling among others.

“It is against this background that in partnership with Ogun State government, 3.1million insecticide treated nets will be distributed to household across the state.”
